News: Rapture finishes third at the Early Bird

VolleyFX 17-1 Rapture started the tournament seeded 14th, but made quick work of both teams in their first pool before dropping a three game heartbreaker to Lion’s Pride 17-1 (eventual champions) in the cross-over.
On the second day, after two matches Rapture found themselves in a four way tie for first (and last) in the pool before heading into the final match. With a win, Rapture moved to the Gold bracket, with a loss, they could have ended up in Bronze. Rapture matched up against Clash 17-1 and played their best match of the tournament, beating Clash 25-18, 25-20, sending them to the Bronze bracket.
The win put Rapture in the Gold bracket. On Monday, Rapture started out with two quick wins over Time Out Black Attack 17-1 and Tri-State Malachi 17-1, moving quickly into the semi-finals, where they faced Norlanco 17-1, and where they came up a little short.
Rapture traveled with eight to Columbus, missing Ali Schroeder and Stacey Yohannes, so the team turned to Tara Brooks to put on the libero jersey, and she stepped up big and played some great defense for Rapture. Now Tara can say she has played MB/OH/OPP/L this year. Next week, she starts working with the setters.
Not only was it a good weekend for Rapture, but we learned a few things as well. We learned that hairy armpits are not for everyone, and that Jason is willing to wear a sparkley blue headband. We also learned, to our surprise that Shannon Ryan is not left-handed. It was a great shock to us all, but we bonded together and found a way to push on…
