Charm finds GOLD! Charm began the tournament in a pool with Cheetah 15-1 and Xtreme 16-1 and suffered losses to both teams but played competitively.  Later that afternoon,  Charm defeated the Devils and TiCann and placed first in the second round of pool play.  The team left feeling confident- knowing they had played some of their best. - showing a great deal of improvement in all areas.   On Sunday, Charm split with VFX Summon, Southern Tier Kestrels and Baldwinsville.  With each match played, the confidence was building - less missed serves, better sets and better hits with great plays at the net. Sunday afternoon bracket play began with a match against Northeast Thunder which Charm defeated in two games.   Moving on to the semi-finals against Odysssey- a tough opponent.    Charm began this match playing well with great serving by Jamie Boerman and Elena Vahl.   Each player played their best and the team played well as a team - point by point.   Each player played up to her potential and beyond.  Great defensive plays by Jenna Boerman, hard hits by Stephanie Skrobach  and  intense blocking by Megan Overlan and Marissa Varade and great floor hustle and assists  by Elena and Jamie.   Charm won the first match 25-15 but lost the second 22-25.  In the third and final game, Charm fell behind.  9-13   Jamie Boerman went back to serve and served  3 aces, bringing the score to 12-13.     Could Charm pull it out?  Again Boerman served.  Now the score was 13-13.  Then 14-13. Jamie went to serve game point and the  OH from Odyssey put the block in her own net.  Charm had won and advanced to the finals, assured of at least a 2nd place in gold.   Spending much emotional and physical energy to beat the Odyssey team, they didn't have much left for the finals against the Cheetah 15-1 team and lost both games.  However, Charm was absolutely thrilled to have won a medal and placed 2nd in Gold at Southern Tier.   For most of the girls, this was their first medal!
