In addition to Christie Gustafson being "Siena Female Athlete" some other VFXers picked up the same recognition.

Jessica Stackhouse garners the award at Canisius

Jessica, a junior libero at Canisius, was named not only Female Athlete of the Year at Canisius, but also the MAAC's Defensive Player of the Year. Jess led the league in 2006 with 621 digs, which set the new single season record at Canisius. She ranked 36th in the nation with 5.4 digs per game. The junior captain accomplished double digit digs in 28 of 32 matches this season. Jess now has a total of 1,454 digs in her career. In the 2006 season, Jess was third on her team in aces (34). She helped lead the Griffs to a 14-4 MAAC record and 22-10 overall for the 2006 season. There is no doubt that Jess deserved this award.

Congrats Jess! Good luck in your senior season!

Allie Matters named Frosh-Female Athlete of the Year for the Seton Hall Pirates

Allie, a freshman outside hitter at Seton Hall, had an outstanding first season with the Pirates. She finished the season second on the team in kills (367), and defensive digs. Allie set the rookie dig record with 359, and finished first on the team in service aces (35) and total attacks (1087). Allie helped lead the team to a record of 5-9 in the Big East, and 16-14 overall during the 2006 season. She was also named Female Athlete of the Year during her senior year at Star Point.

"It was a great year. I love it here and I'm just happy to have been able to contribute," said Allie. "My reward is playing, this recognition is just above and beyond, especially with all of the great athletes here."

Way to go Allie!

In high school news, Alyssa D'Errico of Byron-Bergen and Leah Hill of Wayne do more of the same. Each of them scored Female Athlete honors at their high schools.

Great job girls!
