Four VFXers venture to the MAAC. Atkins, Love, Costello & Ryan join the rich history of VFX-MAAC.

Blair Atkins-Siena College

Blair Atkins, of Magic, is off to Siena College, where former VFX standout, Christie Gustafson, recently graduated. The senior right side hitter from Pittsford Sutherland has a love for a game that she could not wait to continue playing in college.

When looking for a school, Blair stated, "I wanted a school that was academically solid, and I looked for a team that plays at a high level where I could be challenged, but where I could still contribute. It is still a rather small school so it is laid back and the campus is very welcoming. Also, it is only 3 and a half hours away, so my family can still come see my games."

When asked how she felt about attending the same school that Christie had, Blair commented, "She definitely helped in my decision, by telling me that I would fit into the program well with my work ethic. It was reasurring when she said that she loved it there. I respect her a lot as a player and a person, so it was great to hear positive things about the school from her."

Head coach, Garvey Pierre, will be entering his fifth season at Siena this fall. Siena finished 22-13 overall. Siena has won the MAAC Championship and attended the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.

Good luck Blair! Go Saints!

Kristy Love-Rider University

Kristy Love, of Mystery, is off to New Jersey to become one with the Broncs of Rider University. Kristy is following in the footsteps of former VFXer Megan Smith, who just graduated from Rider. The Pittsford Sutherland senior shows a love for the game and is bound to make a lasting impact on the Broncs Volleyball program.

"I was looking for three major things when looking for a school. First, a school with educational opportunities and extra curricular programs to help me grow as a total person. Second, a competitive volleyball program where I can have an immediate impact. Finally, a team and a coach who are passionate about volleyball like I am," commented Kristy. "I am very excited to become a part of the Rider Volleyball program and a community where I can continue my long term educational and volleyball goals."

Rider is coached by Emily Ahlquist who will be entering her 9th season with the Broncs. They finished 8-21 this past season.

Congrats Kristy!

Lauren Costello and Shannon Ryan-Niagara University

Lauren Costello and Shannon Ryan, both of Mystery, are off to Niagara Universtiy.

Lauren is a middle hitter from Our Lady of Mercy High School, and Shannon is a setter from Fairport High School. Both are great athletes and will make a large contribution to the Niagara program.

"I chose Niagara because it was the best fit for me. The program is being rebuilt and the coach has faith in my ability. I hope to earn the right to play and ultimately start in the middle," commented Lauren. "I fell in love with the campus on my first visit. I can't wait for the college experiences that Niagara will provide for me. I am excited and ready to go!"

Head Coach Susan Clements will be entering her first season with the Purple Eagles.
