Try-out Dates and Teams Announced!

Tryout Dates & Teams Announced!

The 2006-07 VolleyFX calendar has been set, and starting with the Annual Kick-Off meeting on Sunday, August 27th at 6 PM at the newly renovated Hot Shots Volleyball Club the excitement gets rolling pretty quickly.

Dubbed the year of "The New Direction", VFX is looking forward to many great happenings in the works, including most prominently the opening of the "home" location in partnership with Hot Shots.

"Each year we have marketed ourselves with a campaign mission of the board, that was the driving force for our activities for that year," stated Rob Werkmeister. "In '05 it was 'Staying Together' as we added new members and merged with another club - growing our organization with a variety of players, parents and coaches. 2006 was 'A Common Focus' - where we began to see goals as a club and not individual teams or players.

This year, we are setting 'The New Direction' - volleyball is going to stay strong in Western New York, and we are going in a direction to invest heavily in our youth and education programs to ensure that it happens. It is the year of selfless contributions for the greater good of the whole. It is about building a legacy with the athletes that are here now and have come before them... for those in the future. Out facility, training and coaching improvements all speak loudly to this."

To accomplish this, VFX will conduct tryouts for groups in a wave format again, starting in the first week of September. The tryout dates are as follows (times and formats will be discussed at the Information Kick-Off meeting):

18s / 17s - September 10th, 17th & 24th
16s / 15s - October 1st, 8th & 15th
14s / 13s - September 8th, 15th & 22nd
12s - November / December

These tryouts are set to allow for the greatest flexibility in athletes finding a fit for them, the best athletes playing at the highest level, and ensuring that tryouts are not in conflict with the heavy times for High School Volleyball.

"By having our tryouts earlier, and then invoking our own form of a modified blackout period we are making sure that the athlete and High School coach and team are protected come State Tournament time," adds Werkmeister. "It is the best way to continue to improve volleyball, focus on the athlete and yet meet the high school needs."

Teams that will be fielded in each age group, and their coaches are:

181 - Rob Werkmeister / Candi Werkmeister
182 - Cindy D'Errico / Tara Jehlan
171 - Jason Pariseau / Tara Craddock
172 - Kevin Conley / Molly Ryan
161 - Sandy Klineberg / Kristen Partridge
162 - TBD
151 - Brian Giles / Pat O'Hara
152 - Jill Harder / Jeff Harder
141 - Matt Glover
142 - Mark Thomey / Elyse Monje
131 - TBD
132 - Jen Hayes
12s - MJ Hoffman & Staff will Field 3 to 4 12-Under Teams

"We are excited about the staff this year. We were able to retain the core of our staff, add in some new coaches who are highly respected (including Maccabi Games coach Sandy Klineberg) and bring back excellent technicians and coaches (like Matt Glover after a one year absence). We are really poised for a tremendous year... probably our best yet," concluded Werkmeister."

The club is still talking with other area college, club and high school coaches and players and will be bringing in additional staff over the next 2-3 weeks. These appointments above are confirmed.

We look forward to seeing you at the informational meeting, please direct any questions or comments to John Hill.

Thanks
