ROCHESTER, New York, (December 2nd, 2005) – Siena College’s volleyball team, lead by VolleyFX Alum and team captain Christie Gustafson, won the 2005 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's championship November 20th, earning the team an NCAA bid and claiming its first league title since 1996. That tournament also earned Christie Gustafson the title of Most Valuable Player. Listen to her post-match interview

As a freshman, Gustafson recorded 2.88 kills per game, the second highest on the squad. Her sophomore year, Christie led the team with 370 kills – a total of 3.94 kills per game. This year, the outside hitter became the fifth player in school history – and the first junior – to reach her 1000th career kill in a match against Saint Peter’s. She enters the Championships with 1,015 career kills.

When the MAAC Coaches released their preseason volleyball poll in August, the Saints were chosen ninth of 10 teams in the conference, even though they were coming off a season in which they tied for last place in the conference. The Saints have exceeded these expectations – winning seven of their nine matches this season.

The Saints take on the University of Washington at Colorado Sate University in Fort Collins, Colo. Friday at 5 p.m. local (mountain) time.
